Mack Fire Trucks
Possibly America's most
famous manufacturer of fire apparatus,
Mack Trucks of Allentown, Pennsylvania began building fire trucks
around 1911.
Over the years, these beautiful fire engines, bearing the
trademark "Bull Dog",
proved to be as tough and reliable as the saying "Built like
a Mack Truck" indicates.
Thousands of these classic apparatus served over the years.
Mack stopped making custom apparatus in 1990 to the dismay of
Mack fans.
This is a tribute to some of the Macks I have admired had the
pleasure of photographing.

The Mack Bulldog |
Even without using the name, a Mack is often easily
recognized by its trademark
Bulldog which has been used since 1922. The familiar Bulldog standing atop the
radiator came into play in 1932.

The familiar Mack Bulldog logo
came about soon after the Mack AC truck was introduced in 1916.
WWI had been underway in Europe since 1914.
As many Mack AC trucks were shipped to Great Britain to assist in the efforts,
they quickly earned the respect and reputation as being reliable, hard working,
tough as British Bulldog trucks.
From that, came the now well recognized Mack Bulldog
logo in 1922.
In 1932, the 3 dimensional Mack Bulldog hood ornament was added
atop the radiator and for Mack trucks forever.
